FIVE FRIDAY FAVS

I like list but lately I have fallen off the list bandwagon. I think it's a result of my busy and some what disorganized life these day BUT I am working to change that. So here is one way to get back to lists.

Here are my Five Friday Favs....

1. Watching people: I have always loved to watch people just living their lives. When I was in university I would grab a coffee and sit in the university and watch people for hours. You can learn a lot about people by watching them move about their lives.

2. Coffee: There is nothing better than a great cup of coffee. On the flip side of that, there is nothing worse than a bad cup of coffee.

3. Wine: I have friends who know a lot about wine. OK, not just wine, but great wine. I love a great glass of wine. I can't always afford a great glass of wine but that's what friends are for!

4. Warm summer days: Enough said.

5. Family: I love my kids, my husband, my parents, my sisters and brothers. Family is essential to a full and fulfilling life

IT TAKES A VILLAGE.....

There is that very famous saying "It takes a village to raise a child". I truly believe that. I was lucky to grow up in a very close community. We knew all our neighbours and my friends lived on my street. I always felt safe in my community and I knew that everyone's Mother was keeping an eye on me ( of course, that is both good and bad if you know what I mean? You could never get away with anything because someone was always watching, ready to tell my Mom and Dad.) I hoped that some day when I had a family I would be able to give my kids the same kind of experience. Well, I am glad to say that we live in a pretty special neighbourhood with pretty special people living around us.

The picture above is one I snapped yesterday of my youngest daughter talking our next door neighbours ear off. He was gardening and my daughter spent about 2 hours talking to him as she helped him garden, as she rode her bike and just hung out. This neighbour isn't the only person on our street to indulge my children like this. Just about every person on our street takes the time to talk to my girls. They never make my kids feel like they are bothering them and always make them feel like they do have something interesting to say.

There are no words to say thank you to those special neighbours of mine. It warms my heart. It really does take a village ( neighbourhood) to raise a child and I am glad that I have some very special  neighbours to help enrich the lives of my children

ANOTHER FAMILY, ANOTHER MOTHER'S HORROR

Strange that I am back writing about a horrible news story. My last post was about a mother backing out of her drive way, running over her little boy. That toddler died and now it has happened again, this time in Hamilton.

Last night I had to write about a grandmother backing over her 2 year old granddaughter. The little girl died in hospital. it is another horrific accident.

I am at a loss for words.

This family will never be the same. How do you ever get over the loss of your baby? My heart aches for this family.

The only thing that I can say is love your children, love every precious moment with them, even love the moments that aren't precious and try your patience because it can all be over in an instant.

A Mother's Horror

Tonight I had to report on a story that breaks my heart. Just writing about it right now I have to fight back tears. Tonight we learned a 2 year old boy was struck and killed by a car in the driveway of his own home in Markham, Ontario. York Regional Police confirm it was a family member at the wheel but neighbours say it was the mother driving. Apparently she was backing out of the driveway when the toddler was playing and darted out behind the vehicle. The mother didn't see her child and backed over him. In shock, she scooped up her baby boy and rushed into the house where the little boy died.

What total and utter horror.

Devastation.

Heartbreak.

When ever there is tragedy like this it reminds all of us what a blessing our children are and how it call all slip away from us in an instant.

So tonight kiss your babies, hug them a little tighter and be blessed that you can still see your little ones kiss you back in the morning.
