Kinder Surprise....SURPRISE!

So this is what came in the mail.

How exciting is that?

Well, rather than tell you, let me show you?

So now they are not the only ones excited about the Kinder Surprise. My hubby also go in on the party. Sadly there are no pictures of him though. I wish there was because I he tells me he added a little something special to his chocolate egg.

Now I need to try that!

What do you add to your Kinder Egg?

Shopping with Sears Club Points

Before I say anything else I should just say that I LOVE shopping with points. Last Christmas I redeemed many points for presents and gift cards. It was a great feeling to be cashing in those points that I had carefully collected throughout the year. So naturally I was more than a little excited about the opportunity to work with Mom Central Canada and Sears Canada and use the retailers Sears Club Points program.

Sears.ca

Firstly, here is a bit of information about the Sears Club Points Program:

When you receive a Sears Financial™ Mastercard® or Sears Card, you’re automatically enrolled in the Sears Club™ Points Program. You get up to 2% back in rewards every time you shop.

Some of the Sears Club Benefits…

-       You can earn DOUBLE points at Sears everyday
 -       1,000 points = $10 towards anything at Sears, including travel ( with some exceptions)
-       You can also donate them to Sears in your Community

There are two great ways to use your Sears Club Points. You can redeem points online at sears.ca or in store. I chose to experience both ways to redeem.

First, I hit the Sears site and did a lot of shopping online. It was actually hard to decide what to get and frankly, who to shop for. I looked around for things for the house but then I decided that was too practical. In the end I decided to try to shop for everyone in the family. With Christmas coming it was a great opportunity to get some things for the kids. I managed to find several pairs of leggings for the kids and some really great tops! They are going to look so stylish at Christmas!

I did find a little something for myself ( some very nice boots that should be coming the first week of November).

Wanted® 'Galloway' Microfibre Fashion Boot For Women

Now here is how it works online. You select the things you want to purchase, dropping them into your cart and then when you are done head to the checkout. Once at the checkout you need to select a credit card to charge your purchase to but also make sure that you enter your Sears Club Points number. The idea is that you will pay for your purchase first and then be credited your account once your purchase is processed through your Sears Club Points.

Here is how it is described on Sears.ca

1. Enter a valid credit card and the Sears Gift Card or Rewards Card identification number
2. Sears Canada will process your credit card for the total amount of your order
3. Sears Canada will process the Sears Gift Card or Rewards Card for the balance remaining on the card
4. Sears Canada will reimburse (debit) the customer for the total amount processed on the gift card or rewards card.
**Credit card debits may take up to 2 weeks to process and may, due to processing timing, actually appear on the next statement after the initial charge.**

While it says it could take up to two weeks it only took a matter of a few days. And the items started showing up at my doorstep in just a couple of days. That was just exciting.

Now, sadly I had to return one of the items that I purchased for the kids. The shirt was just too small. Returning couldn't have been easier. No questions asked. No fuss! No muss! I walked in and said that I needed to return the shirt. I had the bag with the shipping receipt on it and the sales associate in the catalog customer service just said no problem and refunded the money back on my Visa card.

Of course while in the store I couldn't help looking around. I still has some Sears Club Points to use up and using the points card in the store was so easy. I just took what I wanted up to the cash desk, handed over my Sears Club Points and swiped. It was just like using a gift card!

Disclosure – I am participating in the Sears Club Points program by Mom Central Canada.  I received compensation for my participation in this campaign. The opinions on this blog are my own.

Sweet Moments of Being a Parent

I was chatting with a coworker tonight about being a parent. He is Dad to two children who are now all grown up, one of whom is also a parent herself. We got talking about how much being a parent has changed our lives and how becoming a Dad was the best decision he ever made.

We shared some of the best moments with our children, and most of those moments focused on holidays like Christmas. Kids just make all those holidays more special. They remind everyone how joyous it is just to be alive and be together.

I shared how much I loved those late night moments rocking my oldest to sleep. There were nights at the time when I was so tired and how I longed for my "Special K" just to fall asleep on her own. BUT now I miss those nights. My heart aches just a bit for those nights when she would snuggle up on my chest, one hand flat, resting on my chest almost right over my heart. My chin would rest gently on her head, all the while I was smelling the sweetness of her hair and rocking in my wood rocking chair.  Her forehead would get sweaty and her chubby lips would pucker as I shifted my weight in the chair.

Those moments are a distant memory and yet almost feel like yesterday. My "Special K" is nine years old now and she is too big to snuggle up on my lap now. Actually, she is almost as tall as me.

Thinking back on memories like this remind me how important it is to enjoy every moment, don't hurry things along, don't wish for your kids to grow up, don't waste time on meaningless stuff, and be present.

What are your best memories of when your kids were little? I would love to hear them.

My Conversation with Pattie Mallette

There are often some really cool opportunities that pop up because of what I do for a living. I always love the chance to talk with interesting people, who have interesting stories to tell. I have worked to get an interview with Pattie Mallette, Justin Bieber's Mom, for several months. I started working on it once I found out her book was coming out.

I was excited that it all panned out and I got a chance to chat with Pattie. I read her book ahead of the interview. I was pleasantly surprised that it was a quick read. Even though I work in the media, there was much I didn't know about her life and much that I was surprised to learn. She has an interesting story (and not just because she is Justin Bieber's Mom). Her story is the story of a strong woman, of a strong Mother who struggled and survived. There are so many lessons from her story. There is so much about her story I think many women and Mothers can relate to, especially the lengths we will go to make sure we give our children a great life.

I look forward to sharing my interview with you. There we will several articles to come for a few publications. I will be sure to share those once they are live and published.

Five Things to Help You Get Into a Routine - Amotherworld.com

by Christy Laverty
It’s October and now officially the second month of the new school year.
September was a bit of a whirlwind for me.  I always find back to school time a bit of a chaotic time of year, so much to do and everyone is working to get back into some kind of a routine. Routine is a good thing but boy, oh boy, is it hard to back into the swing of things.
If you are anything like me during the summer I let all sense of routine fly out the window; we eat dinner late, the kids go to bed late, and we get up in the morning late.
When school starts it is a shock to our systems.  To be honest, I am not sure my system has recovered yet.
We are still struggling with the back to school routine but I am happy to say, I think we have only been late for school once this year! Not bad for us!
Here are just five things to help you get into a routine and simple ways to get organized!
1.  Be Organized
This is something I often struggle with. It is so much easier to figure out what you need to do when you actually know what you need to do.
Have a central spot for school notices, backpacks and anything school related. It is also helpful to have a calendar posted with important dates and appointments. I am old-school because I like a paper calendar up where I can see it all in a glance. I mark many appointments in my phone but an in-your-face calendar is easier to keep track of stuff, especially in the morning when I am packing up school lunches.
2.  Be Prepared
This goes hand in hand with being organized. In our house we struggle with this one too.  I find it is easier to get ready in the morning if the kids have clothes, including underwear and socks, picked up the night before. It doesn’t always happen but the idea is there. It is still a work in progress.
Packing the majority of lunches the night before makes mornings easier too! It is important to have the kids get all their school stuff, like homework, home books and library books organized and in their backpacks.  Have permission forms signed the night before too!
3.  Think Ahead, Work Ahead
Marking things down in the calendar is essential if you are going to be successful in this step. It is so much easier to work ahead on things, like birthday parties, school projects for the kids and field trips.
If you know things are coming up then you can start to work toward getting everything you need. There is nothing more stressful I find than scrambling the day of or the morning of an event.
4.  Don’t Do Too Much – Moms this is for you!
I am guilty of this. I try to do it all and let’s face it that just isn’t realistic. There is no way one person can be responsible for everything and get it all done.
Delegate! Get the kids to do some of the work.  Kids can start at an early age setting out clothes, helping to pack their lunches, getting shoes, boots, mitts and scarves ready for when they need them. Kids want to help so let them!
5.  Be Kind To You!
As Moms we tend to get stressed about all the things that need to be done and when we forget something we can be pretty hard on ourselves. It’s that Mom Guilt thing. You know about that right? Of course you do! No stop it! Don’t be so hard on yourself. Be kind to yourself.
You are important and shouldn’t be the last one on your list. Treat yourself well and then you will be in much better shape to help everyone else in your life!
How do you get organized/into a routine?

Escaping The City with Ford Canada

Check out this sweet ride. Thanks to Ford Canada my family and I are heading to the cottage in this 2013 Ford Escape. We have had a few days to drive it round town and so far we are loving it. It is small enough to zip around city streets but still big enough to throw the kids in the back seat and all their stuff and get around town.

This vehicle has quiet a few bells and whistles ( which I will tell you about in my next post) but one of the things I love the most is Ecoboost! It is so great on the wallet. The fuel economy is fantastic. The Vista Roof is pretty cool too!

I can't wait to share pictures and stories from the road as we head up to Muskoka. Check back in a few days for updates.
