Family Day - Dinner Night Off!

It was Family Day here in Ontario yesterday, February 21. My family and I planned to spend some time together but as usual during the day that plan fell apart. My husband had some work to do so he had to bail on the family time during the day but planned to join us later in the day for dinner and a movie afterward.

We got a special treat for dinner. As part of a Mom Influencer Campaign at Everythingmom.com we were offered a $50 eGift card for Swiss Chalet. I was more than excited. As most often the cook in our family any chance I get to have a night off from cooking is a great opportunity. As many of you know if you have been following my blog, I work evenings five nights a week and so I don't get to spend time eating dinner with my family. Weekends and holidays are my only opportunity to sit down with my family and break bread at dinner time so I jumped at the chance to have a night off from cooking and still get a chance to sit around the dinner table with my family. Fifty dollars is certainly more than enough money to get dinner, especially from Swiss Chalet.

As part of the Mom Influencer campaign we needed to order dinner online. I set up an account, which was easy. We looked through the menu and were able to sort out what we wanted and the website calculated what we were spending. We ordered a family pack, with dark meat, with fries and salad and then we also ordered an extra half chicken dinner with salad.  I ordered the food early in the afternoon for a scheduled pick up at a nearby restaurant at 5:30 p.m.. Pick up of our order was easy and quick. My kids and I arrived at the restaurant, I was able to show the cashier my eGift card number on my blackberry as payment and within minutes our entire meal was ready.

The only thing I was expecting was a spot online, when I was going through the online check out process, to enter my eGift card number. I followed up with a phone call to the customer service phone number that was at the bottom of my email confirmation and they were very helpful and confirmed that I could show my eGift card number via my blackberry or I could print it off to take with me.

We have a hungry family of four, but we also wanted to have some left overs for work lunches. We managed to have more than enough food to fill up our bellies and we have enough leftovers for lunch.
Dinner was delicious, even more so for me because I didn't have to cook it.  Everyone in the family enjoyed the meal. The best part of the dinner was my non-salad-eating kid actually had 4 helpings of salad...YES, I said 4 HELPINGS OF SALAD. She loved the Swiss Chalet salad dressing. Thanks Swiss Chalet.

My daughter said something that was so fitting since the meal was thanks to Swiss Chalet and Everything.com... "Thanks for everything.... Mom!"

Everythingmom.com wants you know what you think? What do you during meal time? Join the converstaion.  Everyone who participates in the chat has a chance of winning 1 of 2 $50 eGift Cards to Swiss Chalet. Find out more at EverythingMom.com!

The Power of Mom Bloggers

I have been blogging for a few years. At first it was a great way to express myself, to improve my writing and share my thoughts with who ever would read them. And at first that wasn't very many people. As I continued to blog for myself I also began to read other blogs. There is a great community of bloggers out there, and I discovered a great many Mom bloggers. Women who were sharing the same things that I was experiencing every day as a Mom.

Moms are always willing to share their knowledge, their experiences, their loves, their joys and even their failures and their heartache. It is through sharing those experiences that were are able to learn, grow and better our lives. And that is the best part of blogging because it is an easy and accessible way to share those experiences. And it is timeless. So when I am up in the middle of the night sitting with a sick child on the couch, or up with a sleepless 7 year old  I can always turn on my computer and connect with other Mothers who might have experienced the exact same thing and learn how they coped with a sick baby or a sleepless toddler or Mommy insomnia. There is an entire community out there and you never have to leave the comfort of your house.

Good health is about having the knowledge to live well, in mind, body and spirit. Mom Bloggers do that for each other.  I can read about a great book, a great store, the best way to quiet a crying baby, great tips and tricks to help my picky eater eat dinner, great recipes, the perfect rainy day craft, advice to organize and de-clutter my house, the best way to get in shape,  healthy after school snacks, the best way for my sick child to feel better, and the latest recalls.... all from Mom bloggers.

I have learned a lot from other Mom bloggers. My life has been made richer by joining these women in sharing the experiences of our lives. I have made friends, gained a greater understanding of myself and what it means to be a wife, mother, friend and woman all from blogging and reading other blogs.  There is something special about being part of a community...we are not alone in our experiences, we are connected, and just knowing that is a pretty special thing.

Who knows where Mom bloggers and blogging will go from here. There is still so much to learn and so much to share with each other. So much more to enrich our lives, mind, body and spirit.

CAR SEAT WARNING

Sears Canada has issued a warning to customers who have bought cars seats that fall under some of the most popular name brands distributed by Dorel Distribution Canada, including Cosco, Safety 1st, Eddie Bauer, and Maxi-Cosi branded child restraints.
In a company statement released there is a chance the harness adjustment strap could loosen during use, meaning a child may not be fully protected in a motor vehicle collision.
There have been no reported injuries associated with this in Canada.
Sears says customers should not return their travel system, but should visit the Dorel Juvenile group website at www.djgusa.com to get a free repair kit.
Some of the affected restraints were sold at Sears Canada retail stores, online and through the Sears Canada catalog.
The car seats and travel systems were manufactured between May 1, 2008 and April 30, 2009.

February - Where is my motivation?

Well, so I said hello to February nine days ago with a plan to write articles, blog posts and just generally staying on track. A great plan but in the past 9 days my motivation has slipped. Not sure where it all went.

It must be this winter weather and the post vacation blahs. I feel like I just want to stay in bed and sleep all day long. Most of you know that I work late night hours and don't get home from the newsroom until around 1 a.m. and that makes for a tired Mommy in the morning when I am getting the kids ready for the day. It does seem to accumulate as the week goes by and so by the end of the week I am pretty tired. But this week I started off the week tired. Monday was a blah day and it has continued that way for the rest of the week. I think I need a winter weather intervention.

Monday is Valentines Day and I am hoping to celebrate with my family this weekend. Maybe a little family fun time will knock me out of this funk. It is the theme of this months challenges of improving relationships.

What do you do to kick the winter blues? How will you celebrate Valentines Day?

Snow Day

Yesterday was a snow day for us. The snow storm dumped about 24 cm of snow on our area and that meant the schools were closed, my husband took the day off and I already had the day off so we were all home. It was a great family day.

There was a lot of shoveling. The kids helped my husband clear the initial snow and then I bundled up and I chipped in.

The kids played outside.

We hung out as a family. We had a family dinner and some great laughs before bed.

It was a good start to working on relationships for this month. It is all about making sure I used the time wisely and making sure that I spend quality time with my family
